Choosing a Mission Planner

Note: Mission Planner and Flight Planner can be used interchangeably

This article provides an overview of a few mission planners that are compatible with MicaSense Sensors, as well as details about usage.

For apps that do not natively support MicaSense cameras but allow 3rd-party cameras to be added, please see the following:

How to add MicaSense cameras to Mission Planning apps (DJI Pilot, GS Pro, etc.)

Measure Ground Control (MGC)

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
Yes. MGC has the ability to configure and set up the drone to trigger the camera via DJI's PSDK.
  2. Does it calculate the correct side lap?
Yes, it can be configured in the settings
  3. Compatible operating systems
    iOS and Android
  4. Download and instruction

DJI Pilot

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
    • If you are using any of the following cameras equipped with a SkyPort, DJI Pilot is capable of communicating with your camera via the Drone's PSDK functionality.
      • RedEdge-MX
      • Altum
      • Altum-PT
      • RedEdge-P
    • If your integration does not use SkyPort, you will need to configure your camera to use an automatic trigger mode.
  2. Does it calculate the correct side lap?
    • Not automatically, but if you add a custom camera using the settings of your MicaSense sensor then it will calculate the proper flight path for your desired overlap.
  3. Compatible operating systems
    • Android only
  4. Download and instruction

DJI Ground Station Pro

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
    • If you are using any of the following cameras equipped with a SkyPort, GS Pro is capable of communicating with your camera via the Drone's PSDK functionality.
      • RedEdge-MX
      • Altum
      • Altum-PT
      • RedEdge-P
    • If your integration does not use SkyPort, you will need to configure your camera to use an automatic trigger mode.
  2. Does it calculate the correct side lap?
    • Not automatically, but if you add a custom camera using the settings of your MicaSense sensor, then it will calculate the proper flight path for your desired overlap.
  3. Compatible operating systems
    • iPadOS only
  4. Download and instruction

Atlas Flight (legacy)

NOTE: Atlas Flight is no longer in development as of 2019, and as of 2022, it is no longer available for download.

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
    • Yes. Atlas Flight was designed with MicaSense Sensors in mind, and it is compatible with most DJI drones.
    • Via the SkyPort and Matrice 200, 210 (V1 and V2) it sends a trigger signal. It also displays the number of captures remaining on the disk.
    • Otherwise, via Wi-Fi, It automatically sets your camera to overlap mode at your desired overlap.
  2. Does it calculate the correct side lap?
    • Yes, Atlas Flight automatically uses the specifications of the sensor to calculate the appropriate flight plan for your desired overlap.
  3. Compatible operating systems
    • iOS only

Please Note: These are not necessarily the only flight planners that work with MicaSense sensors. If your flight planner can add a custom camera, and use the custom camera specifications to calculate the proper overlap for the flight path, then you can use your MicaSense Sensor by setting it in an automatic trigger mode
