Choosing a Flight Planner

This article provides an overview of a few flight planners that are compatible with MicaSense Sensors as well as details about usage. Hopefully this will help you when deciding which flight planner is best for your integration. We will discuss the following categories for each application:

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
  2. Does it calculate the correct side-lap?
  3. Compatible operating systems
  4. Download and instruction

Atlas Flight

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
    • Yes. Atlas Flight was designed with MicaSense Sensors in mind and it is compatible with most DJI drones.
    • Via the Skyport and Matrice 200, 210 (V1 and V2) it sends a trigger signal. It also displays the number of captures remaining on the disk.
    • Otherwise, via Wi-Fi It automatically sets your camera to overlap mode at your desired overlap.
  2. Does it calculate the correct side-lap?
    • Yes, Atlas Flight automatically uses the sensors specifications to calculate the appropriate flight plan for your desired overlap.
  3. Compatible operating systems
    • iOS
  4. Download and instruction

DJI Pilot

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
    • If you are using RedEdge-MX + Skyport OR Altum + Skyport, DJI Pilot can communicate with your sensor via the Skyport
    • If your integration does not use Skyport, you will need to set your sensor up to use an automatic trigger mode
  2. Does it calculate the correct side-lap?
    • Not automatically, but if you add a custom camera using your MicaSense sensors settings then it will calculate the proper flight path for your desired overlap.
  3. Compatible operating systems
    • Android
  4. Download and instruction

DJI Ground Station Pro

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
    • If you are using RedEdge-MX + Skyport OR Altum + Skyport GS Pro can communicate with your sensor via the Skyport
    • iOS
  4. Download and instruction

Pix4D Capture

  1. Does it communicate with or trigger the camera?
    • If you are using RedEdge-MX + Skyport OR Altum + Skyport GS Pro can communicate with your sensor via the Skyport
    • iOS
    • Android
  4. Download and instruction

Please Note: These are not necessarily the only flight planners that work with MicaSense sensors. If your flight planner is able to add a custom camera, and use the custom camera specifications to calculate the proper overlap for the flight path, then you can use your MicaSense Sensor by setting it in an automatic trigger mode
