For best results, we recommend 75% or higher overlap in both directions (overlap and sidelap). This relatively high overlap is very important for multispectral imagery. A high overlap reduces light energy reaching the imager from wide angles, providing a more consistent and smooth data output.
Refer to the RedEdge User Manual for details on specifying overlap. A good rule of thumb in the field is that you can divide the flight altitude above ground by 4 to get the cross-track distance for 70% overlap. So for 400ft AGL the track separation should be approximately 100ft. For 100ft AGL, it should be 25ft. This will provide good results for most cases. For orchards and forests, the rule should be set based on the distance above the canopy, not above the ground.
