You can connect to RedEdge using WiFi or Ethernet. Both options are outlined below:
The RedEdge has it's own internal WiFi hotspot. Here are the details:
WiFi SSID: rededge [ RedEdge Serial Number ]
(The serial number can be found on the back side of your RedEdge camera)
IP Address 192.168.10.254
Type http://192.168.10.254 into your web browser to access RedEdge's home page.
1. Make an adapter cable
2. Set the host computer to use a manual ip address (192.168.1.40 is recommended)
3. Configure the RedEdge's Ethernet IP address (192.168.1.83 by default).
Make an adapter cable
The COMM port of the camera has an Ethernet connection available. An adapter cable is required to allow use of a standard Ethernet cable. This adapter can be made using the pigtail provided in the RedEdge package and some off-the shelf parts (Sparkfun suggested). Please see the attached Ethernet Adapter Example (PDF: RedEdge-M or RedEdge3) for details.
Set up a static IP address on the host computer
You must set the host computer Ethernet to use a manual IP address in the block 192.168.1.0-255.
We recommend the ip address 192.168.1.40 if it is not in use already. The procedure for setting a static IP address manually for each operating system is beyond the scope of this article but there are numerous tutorials on the Internet documenting this process.
Configure the RedEdge's IP Address
The Ethernet IP address is 192.168.1.83 by default, but can be changed via the RedEdge Advanced Configuration menu (for more details see the Camera Configuration > Settings Page in the RedEdge Manual). You may need to connect via WiFi to configure this.
Once you have configured your host computer's Ethernet, you can connect to the configuration page using the IP address you have set up.
