Importing a GeoTIFF into SMS

Download the GeoTIFF from ATLAS

Create a project in SMS Advanced (Must be on Version 16.5 or newer)

Import files

Select .tiff

Chose the GeoTIFF that was downloaded from ATLAS

Chose to import the entire image

Create new data sets from image color bands
Select "3, 4, 5" to correlate with "Red, Green, Blue"

  • 3 is Red
  • 4 is RedEdge
  • 5 is Near Infrared

Choose “NDVI Analysis”

Select grid size

Select color bands for processing. For NDVI, use 5 for Near Infrared and 3 for Red.  For NDRE, use 5 for Near Infrared and 4 for Red (4 represents RedEdge).

This creates the NDVI/NDRE map in SMS

Just for reference this is what a prescription map for N could look like for corn if applying more N to the lower NDRE/NDVI areas of the field and less to the higher NDVI/NDRE areas. NDVI on left, NDRE on right, both generated from GeoTIFF files in SMS Advanced
